The BLTS (no, not the sandwich) That Are Wrecking Your Progress!

Let’s talk about the sneaky little BITES, LICKS, TASTES, SIPS you don’t think count.
You know what I’m talking about:
• A few Goldfish while packing the kids’ lunch
• A “quality control” spoon of mac and cheese
• One sip of your partner’s frappuccino (that turns into three)
• A taste of dinner while it’s still cooking
• That handful of trail mix you grab every time you walk past the pantry
Seems harmless, right?
Wrong.
They add up. Fast.
And no, they don’t get a free pass just because you “didn’t sit down to eat them.”
Let’s be honest, BLTS are calories. And when you’re trying to hit specific goals, they can be the reason you’re stuck spinning your wheels wondering, “Why isn’t the scale moving?”
I’ve seen it so many times. A client is eating clean, hitting their protein, tracking their meals, but still not seeing progress. Then we look closer, and it’s death by a thousand bites.
Here’s the truth:
If you’re not tracking the little things, they still count. Your body doesn’t forget about them just because you did.
So What Do You Do About It?
1. Awareness first.
Start noticing when you’re grabbing random bites without thinking. If you’re doing it often, own it. Don’t guilt-trip yourself, just take note.
2. Decide if it’s worth tracking.
If you want to hit your goals, track the BLTS just like you’d track a meal. Yes, even the taste of peanut butter you eat off the spoon.
3. Make a rule.
Something like: “If I’m not willing to track it, I’m not eating it.” Or, “No BLTS unless they fit my day.”
4. Plan real snacks.
If you’re always nibbling, maybe you’re not eating enough at meals or going too long without food. Fix the root issue, not just the symptom.
This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being honest.
And sometimes, the most honest conversation is realizing your “just a taste” moments are happening 12 times a day.
So next time you’re hovering over the stove with a spoon, ask yourself:
“Would I track this?”
If not, maybe it doesn’t belong in your mouth either.
You’ve got goals. Let’s treat them like they matter.
Even if it means saying goodbye to the sneaky BLTS that think they can fly under the radar.
